This Friday, the district court sat in Los Angeles, ready for a full hearing. It is to be decided whether the star director must appear in person.
Polanski is said to have raped, in 1977, a then 13-year-old girl. Shortly afterwards a trial was launched in the U.S. against the star director.
After his confession, he escaped justice by fleeing. In September he was arrested upon arrival in Switzerland. Since December he has been in his holiday chalet in France under house arrest.
The Federal Office of Justice is currently preparing for its decision on the extradition request of the United States. When the decision will be made is unclear.
